Basem Darwisch “Oud & Band Leader”
Basem Darwisch is an Oud virtuoso , composer and producer of Cairo Steps. He was granted the title “Ambassador of Egyptian music in Germany”and worked as a music consultant for film and television in Germany.
In 1990, Basem went to Germany to study Egyptology and Ethnology at the University of Heidelberg. During that time, he got famous in the world music & Jazz scene and he joined many bands in Europe during his study. He became well-known for his own style in improvisation on Oud mixing between afro Nubian , Arabic classical & jazz with his Egyptian spiritual touch.
Basem is former a member of the Egyptian folklore musicians D’u Nil, Rayes Mitqāl El-Qinawī 1990 and with Mohamed Mounir until 2003, the Egyptian band Rahalah and with the Grammy winner Fathy Salama. In addition, he has worked together with the well known Producers Lothar Krell, Steffen Kahles, Christopher Blaser, Hassan El Shafei and the Star Maker Nasr Mahrous and with Nobel-winning German Novelist Günter Grass.
